About Lice Happens

Lice Happens is a professional, mobile, and discreet lice treatment service that will come to your home in the event of a lice outbreak among your family.  We understand what a stressful time this can be for you and your loved ones.  Our team of lice experts will treat you and your family with the compassion, respect, and dignity that you deserve.  Our services are completely confidential and effective after just one visit.

A common head lice symptom is an itchy scalp.  This is caused by a louse secreting saliva which can irritate the skin.  Though, for some who have never had lice before, this symptom can take several weeks to appear.  The same saliva can cause a red rash at the base of the hair line, on the neck, and behind the ears.  Other symptoms of head lice include seeing eggs (nits) attached to hair near the base of the skull.  Lice can be seen in the hair as well, and are about the size of a sesame seed.  However, if you don’t know what you’re looking for it can be easy to miss these symptoms or to mistake other things for head lice.  Gobs of hairspray, dandruff, and other insects (like aphids that can blow around) are often mistaken for head lice.  Additionally, some people don’t display the symptoms of having head lice at all!

When we are called to your home, the first thing we will do will be to screen every member of your family for head lice.  Though children are the most susceptible to an infestation, adults and parents are not immune.  Early detection is key to snuffing out a lice infestation easily.  Once we’ve identified each person in your family that is suffering from a lice infestation, we will provide care and treatment to them.  However, we will also teach you how to properly screen for head lice in the future.  Because early detection is important, we recommend that young children are regularly screened for head lice as a preventative measure.  You’ll have the skills you need to detect head lice early on.

Our lice treatment and removal experts go through extensive training to learn how to eliminate lice from your family.  Training includes how to naturally and safely eradicate lice so treatments do not harm the host and education about lice.  Our specialists are also experienced at helping young children get rid of lice and therefore know how to sooth young kids for treatment.  The calming techniques are applied during the entire treatment process and make our services more comfortable for everyone.  We do our best to make the whole process easy for you and your family.

Our treatments are 100% safe and natural.  They contain no pesticides or toxic ingredients.  Our non-toxic treatments are also environmentally friendly.  They will not harm the skin and are suitable for people of all ages.  We use these treatments in conjunction with fine combing of the hair to remove lice eggs (nits), young lice (nymphs), and adult lice.  In addition to learning screening techniques, this is another practical skill you will learn while we are in your home.  Combing with a metal lice comb is the best way to remove head lice from the hair.  This skill will be important in the days after the initial treatment and for follow up care.  Should your family ever be affected by lice in the future, this is a skill you will want to have.

In addition to teaching parents the practical skills of combing and screening, we also educate families about head lice.  There are a lot of common misconceptions and myths that surround head lice and we work hard to dispel those myths.  While providing treatments, our specialist will answer all of your questions and address all of your concerns about lice.  The specialist will also teach you facts about who gets head lice, how to treat for head lice, follow up home care and what is necessary for cleaning, how hygiene plays a role in a lice infestation (hint: lice don’t discriminate), how lice spread, and other topics.  We will provide your family with tips on preventing lice infestations from happening in the future as well.  Our goal is to help your family get rid of  lice so you feel empowered with the skills and knowledge you’ll gain while we’re in your home.  Education is power and knowing all there is to know about head lice should make you feel confident about handling the issue on your own should your child ever get re-introduced to head lice in the future.

Connecticut is a beautiful state.  As part of the tri-state area (along with New Jersey and New York) there is always something to do or somewhere for families to explore.   Connecticut was a central location for the development of the United States federal government.   It’s no surprise that there is a lot of history that can be found here.  Fairfield County is located in southwestern Connecticut and contributes to the majority of the state’s wealth.  Here you can find mountains, rivers, and parks for exploring.  As the most populous county in Connecticut, many families call Fairfield County home.
